Best GORP Recipe
GORP is gold on the Appalachian Trail. Does it stand for Good Ole raisins and Peanuts? The recipe varies, but the best gorps have one ingredient in common. Honey Granola | A Wondering Cook
Ingredients 2 cup oats ( I did 1 cup rolled + 1 cup wholegrain) 2 tbsp honey 2 tbsp coconut oil Small pinch of salt ½ cup of any nut of choice 2 tbsp coconut threads (unsweetened)
1. Preheat oven to 160 C fan 2. Melt honey + coconut oil in a bowl 3. Add oats and salt. Mix 4. Place on a prelined baking tray. 5. Total bake time for oats is about 17-20 minutes. At the 10 minute mark take out and mix. (outer edges seem to brown faster. Mixing allows even goldening of granola) Meanwhile 6. Place nuts and coconut on a tray to roast. They need about 8-10 minutes. I would suggest putting them in once you take the granola out half way through. 7. Once your total cook time is up, mix granola with the nuts and there you have it. Enjoy with yoghurt, milk or by itself as a trail mix type of snack. I often like to top my ice cream with granola too for that extra crunch.
