Fried apple pies have been around for hundreds of years even when times were hard these were easy and simple dessert for your family and churches and fairs or festivals to have! They date back to the 1770 they were called Crab Lanterns they used the crab apples back then and one of the presidents always had his apple pies for dessert Us Franklin Pierce.
These are a budget dessert.
So, with apple season coming take the time one Sunday and make these for your family there’s nothing better than a hot apple pie.
These pies are filled with our apples that we canned last year. Then they are wrapped with my homemade dough that takes a little work but are amazing when you get done.
And just remember the secret to a good apple pie is to precook the pie filling first. Let it cook long enough that the liquid is cooked out of the pie mixture you don’t want a Soggy pie.
Ingredients for Apple pie filling
Canned apples or 2 pounds of apples
1 stick of butter
1 cup of brown sugar
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
Ingredients for pie dough
4 cups of all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon of baking powder
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1 cup of milk if you need a little more just add slow
1 stick of cold butter
Cinnamon and sugar for the topping when they come out of the iron skillet and still hot!
And if you have any left, you can freeze them for up to 2 months in the Freezer.
Hope y’all enjoy this video.
