How To make Ruth's Sugar Cookies
1 1/3 c Sugar
1 1/3 c Shortening
4 Eggs
2 ts Vanilla
4 c Flour
1 ts Salt
4 ts Baking powder
Cream sugar and shortening together until creamy. Add vanilla and eggs, mixing well. In a separate bowl, mix together flour, salt and baking powder. Add wet ingredients, mixing well. Place teaspoonfuls of dough on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 350 F. for 10 - 12 minutes or until just barely browned. Let cool on cookie sheet about 1 minute and then dip top of each cookie into a bowl of sugar, coating the entire top. Place on cooling rack to cool completely. Recipe from Ruth Burlingame -----

RECIPE
DAY 166 – Soft Vanilla Sugar Cookies
Makes About 2 Dozen (24 cookies)
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups (200 g) All Purpose Flour
1 cup (200 g) Sugar
¾ cup (150 g) Unsalted Butter – at room temperature
2 Eggs
1 tsp (2 g) Vanilla Extract
½ tsp (3 g) Salt
¼ tsp (1.3 g) Baking Powder
Process:
1) Preheat your oven to 375 degrees (190 degrees in Celsius) and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
2) In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar for about 1 minute, add the eggs and vanilla extract and continue to whisk for about 1 minute.
3) Add the flour, salt and baking powder and mix it all in until it’s all combined.
4) Using a small ice cream scoop, scoop out the dough on to the parchment paper lined baking sheets making sure to place them about 3 inches (8 cm) apart.
5) Bake for about 12 minutes or until lightly golden brown around the edges. Make sure you rotate the baking sheets half way through cooking for even baking. Let them cool completely and enjoy!

Vintage Baby Ruth Cookies
I have had this vintage 1940's recipe for Baby Ruth Cookies saved for a long while. I finally got to try them out and I am so glad I did.They are delicious!
Here is the recipe I followed:
1/2 cup softened butter
3/4 cup white sugar
1 egg
1 1/3 cup all purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 Baby Ruth bars cut into small pieces
(Theses are optional- I added 2 tbls mini milk chocolate chips)
Cream butter and sugar together until smooth. Add in egg. Stir in rest of the ingredients. Chill for 30 minutes. Drop on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Enjoy!

Baby Ruth Cookies
½ cup butter
¾ cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 1/3 cups all purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon vanilla
2 (1.8 ounce) Baby Ruth bars, cut in small pieces.
Cream butter and sugar until smooth. Add egg and mix well. Combine flour, baking soda and salt (if used); stir into batter. Add vanilla, Stir in chopped candy bars. Chill dough 30 minutes. Drop by teaspoons onto well - greased cookie sheets. Bake in pre-heated 375 degree oven 10 to 12 minutes. Makes 50 to 65 cookies.
