How To make Spicy Christmas Ornaments
1 c Applesauce
4 oz Ground cinnamon
1 oz Ground cloves
1 oz Ground nutmeg
1 oz Ground ginger
(1 oz = 1/8 c = 2 Tbs; 4 oz = 8 Tbs = 1/2 c.) Combine everything and blend with your hands until dough is smooth. Add more applesauce if necessary. Divide dough into quarters. Sprinkle counter with cinnamon and roll out portion of dough to 1/4" thick. Cut with cookie cutters and transfer to cookie sheet. Pierce with skewer to form hole for hanging. Turn ornaments every 12 hours and examine until they are dry. This takes 3 to 5 days. When the ornaments lose their scent, dab on oil of cinnamon. Note: Roll out dough on aluminum foil and move the foil onto the cookie sheet. It will help the ornaments keep their shape. Note: You can alter the amounts as long as you use about 7 oz ground spices to 1 c applesauce. -----

If my belly looks rather round in the video that is because I actually shot it when I was in early labor with our newest addition, Micah.
I could tell things were happening but had no idea he would be born just hours later at 7 p.m. that night. You can hear our home birth story:
I'm so glad I was able to get in one last Christmas activity with the older kids before baby made his arrival.
They fit right in with our other handmade ornaments in our neutral color tree theme.
I think we have a new Christmas tradition here at the farmhouse. DIY Applesauce Cinnamon Ornaments.
I think you will see in the video just how much fun the kids had making these things. They are super simple, so you can let the kids get messy and enjoy making them (mostly) by themselves.
Just equal parts cinnamon and applesauce make up these scrumptious smelling DIY Christmas decor.
Applesauce Cinnamon Ornaments Ingredients
2 cups cinnamon
2 cups applesauce
I just used the cheapest I could find, which was from Aldi.
Other supplies needed
Cookie Cutters (I used these stainless steel stars I purchased from Amazon.)
String (I used this string from Sugar Paper at Target)
Something to poke a hole in the top. We used a pencil.
Applesauce Cinnamon Ornaments Instructions
Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
Combine the cinnamon and applesauce in a large bowl. Stir until incorporated. You will have to use your hands to really knead it like a dough.
Roll it out until it is 1/4 to 1/2 thick.
Use cookie cutters to cut them out into shapes. I used these stars from Amazon.
Use something sharp, like a skewer, ink pen or pencil to poke a hole large enough for your string to go through.
Bake for two hours on a greased baking sheet.
Allow them to cool.
Put strings through the holes and tie a knot.
Decorate the tree!
