How To make Apple Dumplings
2 c Sifted Flour 1/2 c Cold Milk
2 ts Baking Powder 6 x Med Apples, pared & cored
1 ts Salt 1/2 c Sugar
6 tb Shortening 2 ts Cinnamon
Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together. Cut in shortenig, add milk, and mix to a smooth dough. Turn onto floured surface and divide into 6 portions. Roll each portion large enough to cover 1 apple. Place an apple on each piece of pastry. Mix sugar and cinnamon together. Spoon some of this mixture into each core cavity. Moisten edges of pastry and bring up over the apple; seal edges. Place on greased baking sheet or in shallow pan. Bake at 350 deg F., or until apples are tender and pastry is lightly browned. Remove from baking sheet. Serve warm with milk or cream. -----

Easy Apple Dumplings Recipe
A family classic, this Easy Apple Dumpling recipe is made even easier than the original! Crisp, juicy apples are stuffed with a buttery, brown-sugar blend then wrapped up in flaky pastry dough before being baked to a crispy, golden brown.

INGREDIENTS
6 tablespoons butter
4 apples peeled and cored
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour plus additional for rolling
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 1/2 sticks butter cut into 1/2 inch cubes and chilled
1 1/4 teaspoons kosher salt
1/4 cup ice water
1 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup water
INSTRUCTIONS
Combine the flour, sugar and salt in the bowl of a food processor. Pulse 4-5 times.
Add the butter and pulse until pea sized crumbs form. Slowly stream in the ice water and process the dough until a ball forms, approximately 30 seconds. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface. Knead the dough until it is completely smooth and the butter is incorporated.
Divide the dough into two equal pieces and form into a disk. Wrap each disk in plastic and refrigerate for 1 hour or up to 3 days.
In a small bowl, whisk together 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and 1/2 cup sugar to combine. Set aside.
In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk the remaining sugar with the water and cinnamon. Bring the mixture to a boil, then turn the heat to low. Simmer until the sugar is dissolved, approximately 5 minutes. Stir in the butter and remove from the heat.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Divide the dough into four equal portions and roll out into a 8-9 inch square. Place an apple in the center of each square and fill with 1 tablespoon brown sugar spice mixture. Top each with 1 tablespoon butter. Gently moistened the edges of the square with water and bring up the corners of the dough to the center. Pinch the edges together to seal.
Place the apple dumplings in an ungreased baking dish and transfer to the oven. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until the crust begins to turn golden brown. Carefully pour the brown sugar syrup over the apple dumplings and continue baking for an additional 35-40 minutes or until golden brown and the apples are tender.
Remove the apple dumplings from the oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving with ice cream or whipped cream.

1 pie crust dough
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 1/4 to 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

This is my grandmother's recipe for old-fashioned Apple Dumplings!

These are classic, juicy apple dumplings that are simple to make with my foolproof homemade pie crust!

SERVES 6
Ingredients
2 batches homemade pie dough (click on the link for the recipe for homemade pie dough)
6 medium-sized apples¹ peeled and cored
For Filling
1/2 cup granulated sugar 100g
1 ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 Tablespoon salted butter cut into 6 small pieces
For Syrup
1 cup granulated sugar 200g
2 cups water 475ml
3 Tablespoons salted butter
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
00:00 Introduction
00:20 Preheat oven to 425F (215C).
00:26 Divide pie dough into two pieces (if you don't already have it divided in two). Place one back in the refrigerator to keep cool and roll out the second into a long rectangle that’s just over 7” wide and just over 21” long. Cut into 6”-7” squares until you have three squares, then repeat with second half of pie dough until you have six pie squares total. Set aside.
02:05 Prepare filling first by stirring together sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
02:30 Place peeled, cored apple in the center of pie dough square.
03:54 Pour about 1 ½ Tablespoon of filling into the center of apple. Top with a small piece of butter.
04:13 Fold one corner of the pie dough square over the top of your apple. Then take the opposite corner and overlap the first, moisten your finger with water and lightly dampen the pastry to encourage it to stick together. Repeat with opposite corners (see photos in post or video below for visual).
04:40 Carefully transfer apple to 9x13 baking dish (I use two 9x13 dishes for this recipe to avoid over-crowding the pan). Repeat until all apples have been filled and covered in pastry.
For Syrup
04:50 Prepare syrup by combining 1 cup granulated sugar, 2 cups water, 3 Tablespoons butter, and ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon in a medium-sized saucepan. Stir well and place over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Once boiling, remove from heat and set aside.
05:20 Give syrup another stir and then carefully pour around apples in each pan (do not pour on top of dumplings).
05:40 Transfer apple dumplings to 425F (215C) oven and bake 40-45² minutes or until apples are tender (I’ll usually poke them with a wooden skewer to test).
06:14 Before serving, top with a bit of the syrup from the pan.
Notes
¹I recommend a firm, tart apple. I like Gala or Honeycrisp, Granny Smith would also work. My grandmother likes to use Red Delicious. ²If you are using particularly small apples they will need to bake for less time, and of course large apples will need to bake for longer
