PA Dutch Ham Balls
INGREDIENTS
BALLS
• 1 pound Cooked Ham, cubed
• 1 pound Ground Pork
• 1 cup bread crumbs
• ½ cup milk
• 1 large egg
• ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
• 2 tablespoons ground mustard
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
GLAZE (sweet and sour)
• 1 cup brown sugar
• 1 tablespoon ground mustard
• ¼ cup vinegar
INSTRUCTIONS
Place ½ of ham cubes into your blender at a time. Pulse until ground. Pour each batch into a large mixing bowl along with your ground pork. Add bread crumbs, milk, ground mustard, egg, brown sugar, and salt.
For consistency, use a melon ball scoop to make 1” meatballs. Place into a greased single layer using a 15” x 10” baking pan. I use PAM. Bake on 350 for 30-40 minutes until lightly brown, and done inside.
While the ham balls are baking, make your glaze. Place brown sugar, ground mustard and vinegar into a nonstick sauce or frying pan. Over low heat, cook until sugar is dissolved.
Halfway through, pour glaze over balls, and gently tumble balls so all sides are evenly browned, cooked and coated. Yields 40-60 ham balls.
When I get them out of the oven, I toss the meatballs in the glaze again so that all sides are covered with glaze. The ham balls should melt in your mouth. Enjoy!
