How To Make Mexican Coffee - Café de Olla | RECIPE
This coffee is one of my favs for a cold day and I just want to get cozy with a big cobija.
For this recipe you will need:
1 stick of cinnamon
1 whole clove
1 whole star anise
About an oz of piloncillo
- for those of you wondering, it’s called 'panela' in other countries but essentially it's unrefined brown sugar.
You'll need Ground coffee for a cafetiere aka a French press coffee maker.
I am using about 2 ½ cups of water.
Enjoy!
Thanks for watching!

How To Make Mexican Coffee: Sugar and Spice Mexican Coffee Recipe
You know how the saying goes, Sugar and spice and everything nice, that's what good coffee's made of. OK, so maybe that's not exactly what they say, but it works for us, especially when we're talking about cafe de olla. This spiced drink is made from coffee boiled in a clay pot called an olla with piloncillo, which are hard-packed cones of cane sugar, and cinnamon.
While our version of the drink isn't made exactly according to the traditional process, you'll still be able to enjoy all the spicy-sweet flavors one expects from Mexican coffee in just a few short minutes.
Everything you'll need:
1/2 cup of coffee
2 teaspoons of cinnamon
1/4 cup of milk
1/4 cup of heavy cream
1 tablespoon of brown sugar
2 tablespoons of chocolate syrup
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Whipped cream
A saucepan
If you want to make this sweet and spicy Mexican coffee drink taste more like an authentic cup of cafe de olla, add a couple of cloves and star anise. The combination of spices works together flawlessly, creating a cozy and warm coffee experience that's sure to hit the spot every morning.
