TWO EASY HOMEMADE BREAD RECIPES! (Make Ahead / Freezer Friendly / Only $1 A Loaf!! )
Hey Y'all!
Thank you so much for checking out this video. I hope it shows you how easy it is to make homemade bread. I cannot recommend making your bread at home enough. The taste is so incredible, you know the ingredients used, and it is sooo cheap! I was curious as to how much it actually costs to make homemade bread, and for the white bread recipe its about $2 for the entire recipe which means $1 a loaf!!! You can't beat that!
Please let me know in the comments if you have any questions I didn't answer.
WHITE BREAD:
Makes 2 Loaves
INGREDIENTS:
2 Cups Warm Water (105-115 degrees)
1/2 Cup Sugar
1 1/2 Tablespoon Active Dry Yeast
1 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1/4 Oil
5-6 Cups of Flour
If using a Kitchen Aid Mixer:
Combine Warm Water, Sugar, and Yeast into the bowl of your mixer with the Dough hook attachment. Stir these ingredients together to moisten the yeast and allow to sit for 5-10 mins or until foamy. Next add in salt, oil, and 1 cup of your flour. Stir together using the dough hook and continue to add flour in 1 cup at a time until the dough pulls away from the sides of your bowl and is no longer sticking to it. Let the machine knead the dough on medium speed until soft and smooth.. Just a couple of minutes.
Transfer the dough into a greased bowl and cover with a towel or plastic wrap. Sit aside in a warm place until it is doubled in size, about 1 hour. After it has doubled, punch the dough down and turn it out on your work surface. Separate dough in half and shape into a loaf. Transfer into your loaf pans and cover the loaves with a towel to rise again until doubled in size and risen above the loaf pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and bake the loaves for 30-40 minutes or until they are golden on top and make a hollow sound when tapped on the bottom. Place on a cooling rack and allow to cool completely before slicing.
If kneading by hand:
Follow all the steps above in a large bowl and combine the flour one cup at a time with a spoon. When the dough becomes too much to stir with a spoon, flour your work surface and start to knead the flour in by hand on your counter. continue to add flour until dough no longer sticks to your hands or the counter. It is ok for the dough to be slightly sticky but you don't want it to be so sticky you can't handle it. Knead the dough by hand until it is smooth and soft, about 7 minutes, and then follow the same instructions above.
RUSTIC NO KNEAD BREAD
1 Loaf
1/2 Cup Warm Water (105-115 degrees)
2 Teaspoon Active Dry Yeast
3 Cups Flour
2 Teaspoon Salt
In a medium or large bowl combine Warm Water and Yeast. Stir to moisten the yeast. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes or until foamy. Next add salt and half of your flour. Stir with a spoon until incorporated. Add the rest of your flour 1/2 a cup at a time to make sure you don't add too much. This dough should be loose and sloppy. After your flour is incorporated, cover with plastic wrap, and set aside in a warm place to rise for 3 hours, OR place in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. I like to throw this together in the morning and put it in the fridge all day to pull out and cook for supper or make it before bed and let it rise in the fridge overnight.
When youre ready to cook your bread, Place a dutch oven in the oven and preheat to 450 degrees. Turn dough out on your work surface and fold all the edges into the center to form a loose ball. Place dough on a sheet of parchment paper and then place into your heated dutch oven. Place the lid back on the dutch oven and return it to your oven to bake for 30 minutes covered and then 12 minutes uncovered. Cool on a rack before slicing.
If you do not have a dutch oven, you can create the same steam effect by cooking the dough on a preheated baking pan lined with parchment paper. To create the steam, you will need to add an oven safe container with boiling water on the rack below the bread to create steam in the oven. Bake for a full 40 minutes or until golden.
To Freeze:
Wrap bread tightly in plastic wrap and place in the freezer. It stays good for 6 months!
To Thaw:
Place bread in your refrigerator and it will thaw in 6-8 hours. If you need it in a hurry, place frozen loaf in a 325 degree oven and allow to thaw for 20 mins. It comes out of the oven like it is freshly baked!
