INSTANT POT HAWAIIAN LAULAU
Hands down my favorite Hawaiian dish is the laulau. Chunks of fatty pork enveloped in luau leaves and seasoned with Hawaiian sea salt. Serve it with a side of rice, poi, lomi salmon, and ahi poke and you've got yourself an ono Hawaiian feast. It's heavenly!!!

EASY Crockpot LAULAU RECIPE: A PERFECT 10! | a Simply Simple Life
Easy Crockpot LauLau Recipe:
-- Note:
This was a perfect laulau recipe. Hubby and I both don't care too much for laulau because of its fatty pork bland taste. But this version of my Easy Crockpot LauLau recipe is perfect!!!
Chose the meat you want -- Fish/Chicken/Pork all will be good but choose fatty meats and you can mix and match too :-)
1 lb of meat (pork, fish or chicken)
Hawaiian Salt 1-2 Tablespoon
Pepper to taste (use lightly just to flavor a bit)
Shoyo (Aloha brand is the best .. just a a splash or two
crushed or minced garlic -- again not to much because laulau is traditionally a very mild flavor but with these we are just adding more to taste :)
1/2 - 1 cup coconut milk (depending on preference) or just water -- set aside
Sweet potatoes (small cubes) 1-3 small is perfect
Mix all ingredients (except the coconut milk and set aside
Prep Lau or Taro leaves (wash, clean and discard any imperfections -- cut and prep stem)
Prep crockpot with taro (lau) leaves, banana or tea leaf ---
Place a large spoonful of all ingredients (except water or coconut milk)
on top of 2 layers of cleaned taro (lau) leaves. FOLD and TUCK method to secured it.
If you have tea leaves then wrapped it around the taro (lau) leaves to secure.
place all completed ones into the crockpot and add the liquid.
Cover and cook on high for 5 hours or 8 hours on low.
Enjoy and Mahalo :-)

The SECRET to making a GOOD Lau Lau | TASTY and DELICIOUS
Published September 28, 2021
This is a very tasty dish that is a staple dish in every luau. No matter what part of the world you're in, you can make lau laus close to the authentic ones in Hawaii. The only thing missing is the luau leaves and tea leaves. You can use spinach, collard greens or kale and use bamboo leaves or foil for the wrapper. In this video I explain the simple steps so you can make your very own lau laus tonight! I guarantee you'll be making this just like the pros and one day you'll have your very own luau....just don't forget to invite me..LOL-or at least let me know how it turned out.

Crock Pot Laulau

Laulau or lau lau is one of very few traditional Hawaiian dishes. They are usually pork and salt fish wrapped in luau (taro) leaf, wrapped in ti leaf, then wrapped either with the stem of the ti leaf or a piece of string and then put into a pressure cooker to cook. We would get together to make these at times and sit and talk while it cooked, then take home our green packets of goodness :) When I saw this recipe to cook it in the slow cooker, I had to make it. It was delicious.
Unfortunately, this is a dish that only locals (from Hawaii) or people with access to taro and ti leaves can make, sorry. There really isn't a substitute. Some places do a mock laulau with spinach, but it really is not the same.
6 lbs. boneless pork butt or country-style ribs
2 lb. fresh luau leaves, cleaned and washed.
Hawaiian salt, to taste (approx. 3 Tbsp.)
3 Tbsp. shoyu
6 ti leaf, cleaned and thick rib removed
1/4 c. water
Cut pork butt into 1-1/2 inch cubes and place in large bowl. Add salt and shoyu, mixing so that all pieces are covered evenly. Line 5-quart crock-pot bottom and sides with 4 ti leaves, shiny side up (facing food). Place slightly more than half the luau leaves over the ti leaves, forming a slight basket up the sides of the crock pot. Place pork on the luau leaves and cover with remaining luau leaves. Place remaining ti leaves over top (shiny side down, facing food), tucking in edges. Add water down the sides of ti leaves. Cover tightly with foil and crock pot cover. Cook on low for 8 hrs. or until luau leaves are fully cooked (dark green and soft). I received feedback that the fast 4 hr. version caused their mouth to itch. Luau leaves need to be thoroughly cooked so that this does not happen, so I encourage you to do the 8 hr. version.
