A salad is a dish consisting of mixed pieces of food, sometimes with at least one raw ingredient. It is often dressed, and is typically served at room temperature or chilled, though some can be served warm. Garden salads use a base of leafy greens such as lettuce, arugula/rocket, kale or spinach; they are common enough that the word salad alone often refers specifically to garden salads. Other types include bean salad, tuna salad, fattoush, Greek salad (vegetable-based, but without leafy greens), and sōmen salad (a noodle-based salad). The sauce used to flavor a salad is generally called a salad dressing; most salad dressings are based on either a mixture of oil and vinegar or a fermented milk product like kefir. |

Cinco de Mayo Recipe - Mexican Fried Wontons
Mexican Fried Wontons -- Cinco de Mayo Recipe
Cinco de mayo is coming up and I thought I'd make some fun Mexican wontons to celebrate.
Ingredients:
18 wonton wrappers
½ lb ground beef - browned
4oz of shredded taco cheese
¾ tsp garlic salt
1 tsp crushed red pepper
1 tbsp cornstarch
2½ cups peanut oil
Mix the cheese and beef and then place them in the microwave on high for about 40 seconds, or just until the cheese melts. Melting the cheese first makes this filling easier to place in the wonton wrappers.
Drain out any excess oil then add the garlic salt and red pepper and stir.
In a small bowl mix together the cornstarch with some cold water and stir until the cornstarch dissolves -- this will be used to seal the wontons.
Fill the wontons by putting a teaspoon of the filling in the center. Then using a finger wet all of the edges with the cornstarch mixture press firmly to seal.
Then heat the peanut oil in a wok on high and when hot, add the wontons, and cook them for about 3 minutes, or until they just brown.
Remove them with a slotted spoon draining off any excess oil and place them on a plate and serve. Makes about 18 wontons
