How To make Nana's Sugar Cookies
3/4 c Soft margarine
1 1/2 c Powdered sugar
2 Egg whites
1 ts Vanilla extract
2 1/2 c All-purpose flour; or
-unbleached 1 ts Baking powder
1 ts Cream of tartar
Recipe by: Healthy Cooking for Two In a large bowl, cream margarine and sugar; add the egg white and vanilla extract. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and cream of tartar; gradually add to margarine mixture. Cover the bowl and chill for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 400 degrees; lightly coat cookie sheets with cooking spray. Roll the dough on a lightly floured surface; cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters. Decorate with colored sugar, if desired. Bake for 7 to 8 minutes, or until slightly golden. You may decorate with frosting after cookies are cooled. Penny Halsey (ATBN65B). Nana's Special Christmas Cookies, Kroštule
Kroštule are a type of fried cookie made only around Christmas, or other big holidays. And don't worry about them being fried, they don't taste oily one bit! Instead, they're airy and crunch. Topping them with powdered sugar gives them a bit of sweetness, while also mimicking freshly fallen snow. Make them for your holiday party!
